I feel lucky to be a member of the “Techy-Musician-Photographer Triad.”
We are the triple-threat of the creative nerd class.
It’s hard to say what I am first. I’m pretty sure the musical tendencies were the first to emerge. If I remember correctly it started with Chorus in grade school, followed buy Trumpet, Baritone and Drums in middle school, Drums in high school – but not in the school band, as that wasn’t cool – then Bass and Guitar.
My first real lessons on Bass were given to me by Robbie Polomsky who was the bass player for one of North Tahoe area bar bands. His advice was direct and to the point, “learn these 4-5 types of bass lines, and practice till you can play for four hours straight. Do that and you can play in any cover band around.” I moved to San Diego where I took another lesson from a “black-french-jazz-dude” who showed me a bunch of finger twisters and exercises. I joined a band down there and played my first gig, i remember I had my back to the audience the whole time. I’ve come a long way since then.
When I returned to Tahoe I met Frank Carrabetta, and about a year later The New Indifferent’s were born.
